What do you do with stuff on a boat? We have a phrase 'the boat has eaten it', this refers to anything allowed to sit too close/against the side of the boat and then is consumed by mould! We spent my last days off sorting and organising our things, getting rid of the eaten things and putting the saved items in new boxes that fit better and have lids in some vain attempt to keep the condensation away. We always have a quandary and have a one out one in system but it is hard as there is no room for excess. We have also moved back onto our row to and we are staying! It is glorious and it is just that step away that we need for it not to be such a shock when we start exploring. We have repaired the inflatable dinghy and canoe this week. So my commute began with a canoe😊😊 simple things. Oh and Imogen has decide walking is a good idea and has taken her first steps hurrah! Much love The Pirates xxxxx We weathered the storms last year with no way to measure the wind, however this year we do! Last night was severe and we recorded 60knots of wind halfway up the Itchen river. Even Mike was put off going out and we all know he's a fan of a storm or teaching me to sail in an International 14 directly after one 😳. We are planning some journeys further afield than the solent in the not to distant future. We are not sure we have to wait on the weather and see if she is going to be kind. We also still have a list of jobs as long as the boat still to do. Storage as it always has been is our biggest issue. We hope to tackle this in the next few days after spending a small fortune on plastic boxes in IKEA today we should be able to keep everything safe away from the doomed side/ bottom of the boat! We hope you are all well and the New Year is bringing you fresh enjoyable challenges xxx We decided to be nosey and take a motor down to the solent and have a look at the stricken car carrier this afternoon. The sight was immense like a beached whale at low tide. The salvage teams have an epic job on their hands. On the way down we heard a notice to Mariners from VTS fireworks were due at 17.15 as Adonia (a cruise ship) was leaving port. As the tides restricted our arrival time at our berth until after 1800 we decided to take advantage. After our rather off putting anchoring adventure in Newtown River both of us held our breath but decided to anchor off of Weston Shore. The rest was rather text book and light relief, which saw us regain back some confidence we had lost on our Christmas outing. The fireworks were great, gingerbread Hello Kitty's were cooking and dinner was prepared. It was a good feeling to know we can just stop. There is still some work to be done on the anchoring gear, chain, rope, bigger bow roller but all in all a successful afternoon. Much love The Pirates |
